Plastic Garland

Jewellery Design , 2018

Thai society has been involved with religion and superstition for a long time. We have been taught to be unostentatious and not to get attached to an object. But somehow with influence from another religion, plastic garland and animal miniature have been given to holy spirit in return of wealth and luck. Buddism in Thai culture, then , has eventually become materialism in some way.

I considered the objects given to the holy spirit are excess products as it is produced for someone who is too lazy to work something out by themselves toward their own success.

Bread clip is a tiny piece of plastic that also produced to meet the need of people's laziness. the colours of them are based on the colour of the day, the same system as plastic garland.

Acrylic laser cut has been coated with silicone coloured in order to achieve the look of the industrial product as plastic garland.
